If you’re familiar with our work, then you will already know about our fascination with state, state management and the impact it has on your results. And even for me as one of the team it’s easy to subconsciously separate state management when working from state management at home. So thank you for the latest addition to my family for giving me a wonderful reminder of how we can chose our response and state in any given situation and therefore change the outcome:
There was I, at almost midnight (again) trying to console a 6 week old and to prevent the whole family waking up. As I felt my levels of frustration rising with a babe that doesn’t yet understand the need to be asleep at night I noticed a subtle tension rising in my jaw and pressure building between my back teeth. “Here we go again” was the voice repeating in my head “remember how it was with the other ones too?”
And it was at that point that I decided to open my mouth ever so slightly to release the pressure from between my teeth. The voice disappeared, the previously unnoticed tension in my chest was released and calm returned to my body. From that resourceful state I was able to think about alternatives, get the baby back to sleep and help all the others in the house to continue in their slumber.
Thanks to my newborn, and may I continue to learn and be reminded of some of life’s best lessons from my children!

Lovely lovely James – its often the little precious gems that give us the best lessons don’t you think? thank you for the reminder
